The Flashback Asheville Didn’t Know It Needed
Halloween in Asheville took a glowing, neon-soaked turn when LAZRLUVR, the city’s favorite 80s tribute band, transformed Highland Brewing Company into a retro fever dream of color, costume, and pure nostalgia.
Synthesizers filled the taproom, and the crowd — decked out as ET and “80s” Rock band, leather, and glitter — moved as one under beams of magenta and blue.
It wasn’t just a show. It was a time warp — and the perfect playground for a low-light event photographer chasing electric energy in motion.

Craft Beer, Costumes, and Cinematic Vibes
Highland Brewing Company, one of Asheville’s most iconic craft beer venues, set the perfect stage: cold pours, local food trucks, and a taproom buzzing with anticipation.
Everywhere you looked, something shimmered — sequined jackets, glowing wristbands, face paint under stage lights — the kind of textures and tones that band photographers in Asheville dream of capturing.
When the opening chords of “Don’t Stop Believin’” hit, you could feel it: the entire brewery came alive.

Capturing Light in the Dark
Shooting live music in a brewery isn’t easy — the lighting is moody, the movement is unpredictable, and the vibe changes every second. But that’s where the magic happens.
Using the Sony A7 IV and fast prime lenses, I balanced Highland Brewing’s ambient glow with the band’s stage lights — freezing color, sweat, and sound in every frame.
That’s what low-light event photography is all about: not just documenting, but translating emotion — the instant a guitar solo peaks, or a fan throws their hands up in perfect rhythm.

Why I Love Shooting Asheville Bands
As a band photographer in Western North Carolina, nights like this are pure gold.
You get to work with incredible local talent like LAZRLUVR, who bring energy and storytelling to every note — and venues like Highland Brewing, who know how to turn live music into a full experience.
Each frame becomes a time capsule: the laughter, the movement, the community that defines Asheville’s nightlife.
