After months of rebuilding and anticipation following the impact of Hurricane Helene in late August 2024, the doors of The Fresh Market in Hendersonville opened once again, today, on March 11, 2026โand the energy inside the store felt like a true homecoming.
This wasnโt just the reopening of a grocery store. It felt more like a community celebration, a moment where neighbors, families, and longtime customers gathered to welcome back a place that has long been part of the Hendersonville experience.
And of course, I brought a camera along to capture it.
A Morning of Celebration
The day began early with a warm and symbolic Bread Breaking Ceremony, marking the official reopening of the store. As people lined up outside, there was a sense of excitement and curiosity in the air. Many customers were among the first 300 guests, each receiving a Fresh Market Hendersonville bag as a small welcome-back gift.
Inside, the store buzzed with activity. Demonstrations and tastings were happening throughout the morning, giving visitors the chance to experience the flavors and traditions The Fresh Market is known for.
Highlights included:
- A coffee tasting featuring The Fresh Market Signature Blend
- The dramatic cracking of a wheel of Parmesan cheese
- Fresh sushi-making demonstrations
- And one of the most memorable treats of the dayโฆ
The Sumo Orange Experience ๐
One of the most talked-about tastings was the Sumo orange sampling, where slices of the famous oversized citrus were dipped in chocolate.
Not only did I get to try oneโI was even given a whole Sumo orange to take home.
If youโve never had one, Sumo oranges are known for their:
- exceptionally sweet flavor
- easy-to-peel skin
- bright citrus aroma
- and juicy, almost candy-like taste
It was the perfect little surprise and a fun moment to capture on camera.
Capturing the Moment
For this visit, I brought along the DJI Osmo Pocket 3, a small but powerful camera that makes it easy to capture moments naturally as they happen.
That meant I could film the atmosphere of the reopening without interrupting the flow of the eventโcapturing:
- customers walking through the doors
- food demonstrations and tastings
- the energy of the crowd
- and the small details that make events like this feel special
Sometimes the best stories are the simple onesโpeople enjoying food, talking with neighbors, and celebrating something returning to their community.
More Than a Store Reopening
The Fresh Market has been part of Hendersonville for many years, and seeing it reopen after the challenges of Hurricane Helene felt meaningful to many locals.
Moments like this remind us that a town is more than buildings and businessesโitโs the people who show up, support each other, and celebrate when something good returns.
Walking through the aisles, you could hear conversations about favorite foods, recipes, and how glad people were to have the store back.
Thatโs the kind of moment worth capturing.
