Highway 9 Reopens in Black Mountain – A Community Rebuilt
When floodwaters tore through Black Mountain and the surrounding area, the devastation left deep scars on both the landscape and the people who call it home. One of the hardest-hit routes was Highway 9, the vital artery connecting Black Mountain to Chimney Rock, Lake Lure, Bat Cave, and Hendersonville. For weeks, access was cut off, and recovery felt like a distant dream.
But today, that dream is reality.
Hendo Today recently returned to Black Mountain to witness the incredible transformation firsthand. What was once a scene of destruction is now a symbol of determination and hope. Highway 9 has officially reopened, marking a major milestone in the region’s recovery.
In the High Rock Acres community, local advocate Drew Christy of Grow NC stood alongside residents as the final touches of the rebuilding process were completed. It’s a moment that represents not just the repair of infrastructure—but the revival of a community.
Downtown Black Mountain is thriving once again. Visitors and locals alike are flocking to its charming streets, now buzzing with life. Shops, restaurants, breweries, and distilleries are open and welcoming, showcasing the resilience and spirit of the people who never gave up.
This is more than a story about a road reopening—it’s a story about the power of community, the urgency of recovery, and the road ahead.
