Saluda Grade

While filming for our upcoming Ecusta Trail documentary, I had a chance to sit down with Kieran Roe, Executive Director of Conserving Carolina, at the Ecusta Market in Western North Carolina.

During our conversation, Kieran took a few minutes to share what Conserving Carolina is currently working on — the transformation of the historic Saluda Grade into a public rail trail. Once known as one of the steepest standard-gauge railroad grades in the United States, the corridor has enormous potential as a trail connecting mountain communities and giving outdoor enthusiasts access to some stunning terrain in the region.
